Yesterday was a rough day. Getting woken up at 5:30 and then dealing with two kids that were visibly tired but refusing to stop running for five seconds to rest.....wore me out!! JP slept in and took two naps and I was just dragging by the end of the day. I held out until about 7 before finally putting the kids in bed and they knocked right out. Long day.
I did manage to get of the house for awhile to get some Christmas shopping done. I want to get it handled now before JP’s North Dakota plans become definite, he’s talking about leaving at the end of November and it would be nice if I had Christmas all taken care of by the time he leaves. I went to Big Lots recently to pick up a birthday present for a friend’s daughter. I had never been in there before and I was actually kind of shocked at all the cool toys they had at really reasonable prices. So I made a mental note to come back and that’s where I went yesterday.
I found Calvin a bunch of those Trio building sets which I think he’s really going to love and a few playdoh toys. I got puzzles and coloring books and a few toys for Ethan (plus a few other cool things for Piper and Calvin). I got a huge chunk of my shopping done and spent less than what I had intended on spending yesterday! I was so proud of myself and now I have it all hiding in my closet waiting to be wrapped. I’m sure I’ll still pick up a few things here and there....I really wanted to get Piper and Calvin Leapsters and they’ve been begging for pillow pets, happy nappers and those stompeez slippers. I’m not getting all three, I’ll probably go with a pillow pet since they have them at Walmart.
After I finished that, I came home to clean up the house. I was in the kitchen about to start cleaning up and went to move my iphone out of the way. I ended up dropping it face down on our tile floor and shattering the screen! When I picked it up, I didn’t expect it to be broken because it’s not the first time I’ve dropped it but no such luck. I actually started to cry when I saw the damage. Now, I’m not obsessed with my phone.....I’m not on it constantly and I don’t use it for everything but I do love it and it’s the only real “luxury item” that I own. Plus, we don’t have a landline so that’s my only way to communicate with JP during the day. I’m not eligible for upgrade until July and cannot afford to buy one without the discount. Besides, I want the 4s when I upgrade so I’m not about to buy another 3GS. We have a few old phones around the house, even one brand new one that JP upgraded to and didn’t like so it’s not like I’m without a phone. I just can’t get used to using any of the other ones! I tried out the new one but the touch screen doesn’t work as well as mine did and it feels so flimsy. I ended up just using my old slider phone but I miss my iphone and it still bums me out that it’s broken. Luckily, I remembered that my dad used to have an extra one so I called him and he still had it! He agreed to mail a it out to me today and is even giving me his old case so this won’t happen again. Crisis averted; I love my dad, he’s the best!
This morning, I was getting Piper dressed for school. She is currently obsessed with tights (anyone know where I can find cool kids tights with lots of different colors and patterns?) so I figured I would put her in one of the dresses I bought from the yard sale. I picked out this jumper type one that needed a shirt underneath. Got her tights and shirt on and she started freaking out as I tried to put the dress over her head. She kept saying, “I already have tights and a shirt, I don’t need that dress!” I had to explain that tights aren’t pants and the dress was not another shirt. She wasn’t having it so I finally put a jean skirt on her and called it a day. Moral of the story: choose your battles. So not worth it to argue over even though it’s an adorable dress. I will get that dress on her one of these days though. It’s too cute to just keep hanging in the closet.
It’s been drizzling off and on this morning and I want it to just stay raining! I’m supposed to leave to get Piper in about 10 minutes and I just know it’s going to start raining on me when I leave the house. I really don’t need another shower.

Big Lots usually has a really good Black Friday sale that lasts all of Thanksgiving weekend (I think they're even open with deals on Christmas Day!) Last year, I bought a couple of fake Snuggies there for $5 each -- we LIVED in those all winter long. Loved them!
I dropped my phone in a bag that a bottle of water had spilled in (and I didn't know, of course) while we were on vacation back in September. The phone didn't work for two days and I seriously cried -- and just about broke out in hives thinking about having to go back to my old Crapberry. Luckily, it started working again. I don't know what I'd DO without that phone!!
Sorry about your phone, bummer! Good thing your dad still had his old one! Glad to hear you had a good time and scored some great Christmas stuff!
